New Keynote Speakers
Our conference draft program has been updated, including new keynotes, speakers and facilitators. We’re pleased to announce our three new keynote speakers below:
Luther M Ragin, Jr.
Luther M. Ragin, Jr. is the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the scale and effectiveness of impact investing. The GIIN builds critical infrastructure and supports activities, education, and research that help accelerate the development of more robust impact investing industry.
Steve Killelea AM
Steve Killelea is Founder and Executive Chairman of the Institute for Economics and Peace, an accomplished entrepreneur in high technology business development and at the forefront of philanthropic activities focused on sustainable development and peace. After successfully building two international software companies, Steve decided to dedicate most of his time and fortune to sustainable development and peace.
Allan English
A major supporter of micro finance programs in developing countries with Opportunity International, Allan’s philanthropic goal is to fund 1 million people out of poverty in India. The English Family Foundation is also involved in supporting local projects, and Allan was awarded Queensland Community Philanthropist of the Year in 2012.

If you’re not a Member, we urge you to register as soon as possible as the conference capacity is limited to 300 delegates and seats are filling quickly.

New Keynote Andrew Forrest
We’re pleased to announce that philanthropist and Fortescue Metals Group Chairman Andrew Forrest will be joining the conference program as Keynote speaker.
Andrew is an active participant in philanthropy, with a focus on indigenous and children’s issues within his community.
About Andrew Forrest

Industry and philanthropic leader Andrew Forrest grew up on a remote Australian sheep and cattle station before attending university. He is the founder and Chairman of Fortescue Metals Group and the Australian Children’s Trust among other significant charities and companies.
After graduating in economics and politics, he built a career in investment banking, mining and farming. He has created some of the largest raw material exporters in the world, while pursuing major social issues on a domestic and international basis.
He has been awarded the Australian Centenary Medal, the Australia Sports Medal, Australian Social Entrepreneur of the Year, West Australia Citizen of the Year for his contribution to regional development and The Mining Journal’s Mining Lifetime Achievement Award.
Recognized widely as family orientated and a strong community and arts supporter and is very active in ventures to protect and help under privileged children locally and internationally.

We’re pleased to announce our keynote speakers for the Philanthropy Australia Conference 2012:
Baroness Jill Pitkeathley OBE
Baroness Pitkeathley will reflect on ways of improving civil society from the three perspectives from which she has observed and participated in civil society over many years and under several governments in the United Kingdom. These are as a grant seeker at the head of a campaigning charity; as a distributor of money through the Lottery; and as a policy maker though her work in the House of Lords. Read more »
David Gonski AC
David is currently the chairman of four companies - the investment bank Investec, Coca-Cola Amatil, the Australian Securities Exchange and Ingeus. He is also currently heading the federal government inquiry into the future of school funding. David is an Ambassador of the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation, is a leading figure in the arts community, and has been Chair of both the Australia Council and the National Institute of Dramatic Art as well as President of the Board of Trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Paul Clitheroe AM
Paul Clitheroe is on the Council of Philanthropy Australia, and is a director of ipac securities, which manages more than $16 billion dollars for clients. Paul is a leading media commentator on financial issues and is renowned for his ability to explain complex money issues in plain English. In 2002, Paul and his wife Vicki set up a PPF, The Clitheroe Foundation, which provides support for medical research and the arts. Read more »
Dr Nicholas Gruen
CEO at Lateral Economics, Nicholas Gruen is an economist with three decades of achievement and experience in the public sector, business and academia. He has published in national and international academic journals on a range of issues from tariff reform to competition policy, intellectual property, innovation in government and macro-economic policy, and has been a regular columnist for the Australian Financial Review and the Courier Mail. Commissioner, Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC)
The ACNC is expected to be established by July 2012 at which time the official Commissioner will be appointed. There is a commitment that the Commissioner will present a keynote at the conference. Read more »
Bruce Bonyhady AM
Bruce Bonyhady is President of Philanthropy Australia, and is a Member of the Independent Panel advising the Productivity Commission in its Inquiry into the NDIS. He is also Chairman of Yooralla, Chairman of Acadian Asset Management Australia Limited, and a Member of the UniSuper Investment Committee. In June 2010 Bruce was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to the community. Read more »

Philanthropy Australia is pleased to announce that our next biennial conference will be held on Tuesday 4 & Wednesday 5 September 2012 at Dockside Conference Centre, Cockle Bay Wharf, Sydney.
The current working theme is Improving Civil Society; we’ll be refining this as the programme is confirmed.
The conference will be open to the whole sector; Full and Associate Members will be notified of important developments. If you’re not a Member and would like to be kept in the loop of any conference news, please click here fill out our register of interest.
Registrations are expected to open in early 2012.
So far planning is shaping up well - we hope you’ll be joining us!
